Comments are Getting Lost
I had a comment the other day, regarding the Galena Road situation. When I posted it on, it disappeared. I don't know what the problem is, but there is a problem. I doubt that I will be able to figure it out on my own, but I shall try.
That is odd indeed.... but not unheard of unfortunately, from what I understand of blogging in general. Well, actually, I've heard of this or similar situations 3 times.
What was the gist of the comment?
I'm a regular reader and would comment much more but I don't live in the Heights (but am a fan) so my views aren't extremely important other than from a potential tourist point of view.... and who knows, I might make the home of the WorldsMostBeautifulDrive a home at retirement someday.
I can't believe Idot isn't up on - or doesn't care- what grows a local economy. Of course a slower speed and traffic lights and proper turning areas and parking is what brings in and keeps the business. I read you wrote Idot. That's good. Perhaps we all should? Would that help? Keep up the good work. The Heights is lucky to have you. I keep up on most things Peoria and especially Peoria Heights - your quaint and admired Village living and river bluff views I intend to see one day - and I have to say I have agreed with most if not virtually all of what you have had to say and goals you would like and have acheived already for the Village.
Thanks for the nice comments. I've switched off the "modem" that allowed me to look at the comments before I posted them. Looks like it worked for your comment, so I'll keep it as is, and trust that folks won't get too fired up before posting (no name calling, etc.). The comment that was lost was a short one having to do with IDOT and the need to lower the speed limit and such. I don't know if the person signed off on it, but if he/she checks in again, please post it once more.
The latest letter I received from IDOT actually stated that they would not lower the speed limit on Galena Road because too many cars were already speeding. I'm being truthful here. So when will IDOT lower the speed limit? When everyone is traveling under the speed limit already? Hold on... I know. When the community asking for the lowering is Morton; that's been done.
I'd welcome your sending a letter to IDOT, but my guess is that it won't do much good. They've had petitions filed; letters sent to them; and still they have no interest in really even listening. We'll keep the pressure on, however, and hopefully at some point, we can make an impact. Thanks again for checking in.
Good deal. When I get a chance I'm going to mapquest Galena and see if they have street view that they do sometimes. Last year this blog discussed lowering speed and installing traffic signals but I dont recall for what roads- could have been Galena. Well if IDOT wants lower speed before lowering speed and installing traffic signals, I hope that those mph detecting displays stating how fast one is traveling, speed enforcement, etc can be utilized and word out that this is a business friendly district, that will translate to that and in turn pedestrian friendly. And long overdue congrats to your paramedics becoming accedited!
